Black Market Drugs from Internet Strangers.

IVF medication is wildly expensive, but somehow, my husband and I have deemed it worthy. It’s a hard pill to swallow, but due to surgical complications from a miscarriage, and the fact that big pharma lobbyists are in bed with politicians/insurance companies and basically the the American Healthcare system is broken.. this is the price we have to pay for hopes of a child.

Here is my Medication Protocol:

  • Menopur – 4 viles and syringes for $317.89
  • Cetrotide – 5 pre-filled syringes for $480.50
  • Ovidrel – 1 injectable for $91.50
  • Lupron – 1 injectable kit $604.80
  • Gonal-F – 2 900iu injectable pens and a 450iu vile with needles for $3,208.00
  • Decapeptyl- 3 pre-filled syringes for $195.00

Our grand total for one round of IVF medication alone is $4,600.

Did I mention my husband and I did EXTENSIVE research on everything IVF-related? We discovered there is quite a lot of under-the-table wheeling and dealing of IVF-drugs. I immediately wanted in on the action. I am extremely opportunistic when it comes to saving money and, out of spite, the less money I could put in the hands of big phrama the better.

So I joined a handful of IVF support groups that have a known sub-culture of buying/selling drugs on the DL. Obviously, buying and selling prescription medication is very much illegal. That being said, this is not something that law enforcement typically wastes their time enforcing.  I was never concerned about getting busted for buying pharmaceutical drugs. My main concern was that the seller has stored the medication correctly. Most of the drugs I am taking for this IVF cycle require refrigeration and have a very fragile shelf life. I asked these sellers one million questions about safety and storage before closing a deal. I really went off the deep end stalking these women I was buying from (Facebook, LinkedIn, literally Zillowing one seller’s house and viewing all the interior and exterior photos of her home. I have NO SHAME.)

Big props to my sister for doing a drug deal for me in the Kohls parking lot. A very kind internet stranger let me have her unopened/unused 450iu vile of Gonal-F, which at $1 per unit, is basically liquid gold in the fertility world.

Seven questionable dealings later, I got our total cost of IVF medication of $4,600 down to $1,085.

All my IVF medications except for the Decapeptyl which is unfortunately got stuck in US Customs since I ordered it though a much-cheaper overseas pharmacy. It will be released within the next 24 hours though, thank goodness!
